Yedshi Ramling Wildlife Sanctuary

Yedshi Ramling Wildlife Sanctuary

Nestled in the Balaghat mountain range of Sahyadri, Yedshi village is surrounded by districts of Kalamb, Bhanasgaon, and Wadgaon in Osmanabad and the wildlife reserve is spread across these areas. Covered in dense greenery and dry deciduous forests at an elevation above sea level, Yedshi is dubbed as a hill resort or hill station by visitors and its residents. Yedshi is also famous for the Ramling Temple located at a distance of 20 kilometres with an idol of Lord Shiva.

The trees are sparsely located with thorny growth and bushes and varieties of Dhawda, Sitaphal, Apta, Babuldhaman, Khair, Hiwar, and Bor are found in the forest in bulk. Shrubs and bushes are also found in the forest, the likes of Lantana and Karwand, whereas grass or weed like kusali, mavvel and shedya are also found here in the reserve. Forms of trees like Dikamals, Sandal, Bel, Teak and Arjun grow in the forest of Yedshi reserve.

Yedshi Ramling Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in biodiversity and the flora and fauna range attracts scores of visitors to this forest reserve. Besides being a storehouse of more than 100 species of birds and peacocks in majority, varieties of wild boar, chinkara, fox, black duck, wolf, hare and hyena are also spotted in the wildlife reserve.

The best time to visit Yedshi Wildlife Sanctuary is from October to June. Yedshi forest reserve can be accessed by air from Aurangabad airport, via rail from Yedshi railway station and via road through Latur, Barshi, Sonagaon, and Bhanasgaon into Yedshi. For reservations and accommodation, Range Forest Officer is to be contacted at Tuljapur office in Osmanabad.
